I could see that this pair of ankle boots was well made right away; when I found out that they were also comfortable they became instant favorites. You can tell right away that these boots are made by people who know what they are doing. The style is traditional, and every detail seems right in a subdued way. At first I thought they wouldn't fit, as they seemed to be a proper D (nominal standard width). I used to wear a true D but both the width of my feet and the standard width seem to have been creeping upward, so when I encounter an honest D now it looks as narrow as some of my old dress shoes, and at first it looked like I couldn't even fit my feet inside. After I redid the laces though, leaving them looser near the top, my feet eased into the snug uppers, at first tightly, but the boots soon seemed comfortable and even faded from awareness. Whether the uppers adapted to the shape of my feet or my feet adapted to the shoe--or both--I cannot tell, but after I tried wearing them for a day with a backup pair of sneakers on standby they easily passed, the sneakers forgotten. I forgot I was even wearing new shoes, as they simply gave my feet comfortable support (I wish I could say the same about all my existing footwear). When I went back to check the brand name ("shoeslocker") I was slightly disappointed to learn that the uppers were in fact synthetic -- based on their good appearance I had believed that they were genuine leather. Faux leather sometimes does not wear as well as real leather, but this substitution was more than fairly reflected in the price, so I still give them a high grade. I'll keep note of how well the finish holds up, though.
